The fact that someone like Feisal Abdlu Rauf could be the target of vile accusations and hate speech tells volumes about the siege mentality and and the fascistic zeitgeist that has descended on America since the events of 9/11. You could not find a more moderate, a less fundamentalist Muslim if you searched for one. I confess that the accusations were so harsh and pervasive that even I had been affected until I got to listen to this man in a Council for Foreign Relations event in Chicago.

Fox News, as Jeff rightly observes, is a major platform for propagating this kind of hatred. Voices of reason, such as that of Meyer Bloomberg are lost in the heat of rabble risers. The center Abdlul Rauf has in mind, as David Horowitz, one of the leaders of the movement to propagate hatred of Muslims (Islamophobe is too mild a description for him and people like Daniel Pipes) has judged may never come to be. But history will judge those who prevented it as id does all racists and hate mongers.
