As Alba shows here, it is a sideshow, not addressing the central economic problems. I also think that the enduring problem of our political culture with the Republicans confusing their partisan positions with the truth is making the US ungovernable. More later today.

Lets remember also that when George Bush got elected he inherited a surplus of 86.4 billion dollars, and that, after predicting that he would finish his term with a surplus of 5.plus trillion, he actually left a deficit of $11.3 trillion, part of which was related to the $1.35 trillion tax cuts that he implemented.
