I did want to give a sourced Sarah Palin quote, however:

“We sometimes get the feeling that this administration hates true Americans… the type of Americans who came here and built this country, not the type who sat back on welfare handouts. The Obama administration keeps rewarding these same types of people while average Americans are told that their country is no longer Christian.” (Sarah Palin, August 20th 2011, Fox News Real Talk)

Not exactly the same as Romney’s assertion, but not entirely different, either. I suspect that the difference sounds larger for those on the right than it does for those on the left (and I understand and acknowledge precisely the related selection mechanism that you discuss).

Is it our (sociologists) fault, or is it confirmation that a proper sociology
education needs to be required in higher education?
The idea of a national campaign and election process is indeed very appealing.
