Andrew Arato


Andrew Arato is the Dorothy Hart Hirshon Professor of Political and Social Theory at the New School for Social Research. He has previously taught at Ecole des Hautes Etudes and Sciences Po in Paris, at the Central European University in Budapest, under a Fulbright teaching grant in Montevideo in 1991, as a Distinguished Fulbright Professor at the Goete-Universitaet in Frankfurt, Germany, and as an honorary professor and Bram Fischer Visiting Scholar at the School of Law at Witwaterstrand University, Johannesburg.

Professor Arato has served as a consultant for the Hungarian Parliament on constitutional issues and as U.S. State Department Democracy Lecturer and Consultant on constitutional issues. Conferences and sessions dedicated to his work have occurred at the University of Glasgow Law School (Spring 2009), KocUniversity, Istanbul (Fall 2009) and the School of Law at Witwaterstrand University, Johannesburg (August 2010).
